How to eat for youthful skin
Skin ageing is influenced by a combination of internal (endogenous) and external (exogenous) factors. Topicals alone won’t solve the problem.
We know that what we eat has a direct impact on our complexion, and can make the difference between dull, thinning, sagging skin, and skin that is plump, bouncy and vibrant.
Below, I share my Naturopathic tips for upping the ante on your youth-boosting beauty regime from the inside-out. Not only will these tips have your skin looking plumper and more radiant than ever, they will also leave you feeling energised and full of vitality!
How to eat for youthful skin
Up your antioxidant intake
Antioxidants protect the body and skin cells from damage. Ensure you are eating a variety of fruits (e.g. blueberries, strawberries and figs), vegetables (e.g. broccoli, spinach and carrots) and topping up your meals with antioxidant-rich herbs and spices such as cinnamon, oregano, cumin and parsley.
If you really want to boost your antioxidant intake, supplement with superfoods like Kakadu Plum, Hibiscus and Sea Buckthorn, which can be found in our Native Collagen Powder.
Eat more healthy fats
Essential fatty acids are a key component of the skins inter-cellular matrix. Incorporate omega-rich foods like avocados, flaxseed and walnuts into your diet to keep your skin firm, plump and supple!
Increase Resveratrol
Resveratrol is a plant-produced antioxidant that supports collagen synthesis and improves the function of fibroblasts, protecting the skin from intruders. Fill up on blueberries, blackberries, raspberries and pomegranate to get your fix.
Supplement with Collagen Amino Acids
We know that collagen supplements are a fantastic way to plump, lift and firm your skin from the inside-out, but not all collagens are created equal, nor are they pure and cruelty-free!
Our Native Collagen Booster supplies your body with proven, plant-based Amino Acids in the same ratio as human collagen, ready to be absorbed and used for collagen synthesis.
This vegan formula ups the ante on traditional collagen supplements by preventing collagen depletion and enhancing the absorption of collagen and nutrients.
Increase Vitamin A and C
Eating a vitamin-rich diet can actually slow down the ageing process! To top up your Vitamin A stores, consume plenty of sweet potatoes, kale, spinach and papaya. Rev up your Vitamin C with kiwi, guava, pineapple, capsicum, kale and spinach.
Our Native Collagen Booster contains 4x the RDI of Vitamin C per serve, along with an abundance of Vitamin A and is an easy way to ensure you are getting plenty of age-defying nutrients. Mix into your morning smoothie, or consume with water or juice for a refreshing beauty-boosting drink.
Pack in protein
Become conscious of your protein intake. Fill your plate with plant-based sources such as hemp seeds, legumes, nuts and seeds. Adequate protein levels ensure you have the building blocks for optimal collagen production and skin repair. If you are consuming a vegan diet, supplementing with a plant-based complete protein source such as our Complexion Protein+ Powder can help ensure you are getting enough protein.
Keep your liver healthy
Making sure the body is ridding itself of toxins and free radicals is the key to combating damage. Load up on dandelion, cruciferous veggies, turmeric and lemons.
