5 Naturopath tips for brighter, plumper skin this Autumn

Autumn weather is finally upon us and with a drop of temperature can lead to more skin irritation, dull and lackluster skin and even a build up of dead skin cells. I am a firm believer in changing up our food and skincare routine with a change in seasons and here I share my five tips for brighter and more hydrated skin in autumn.

Calm and brighten up with an oil

If you are noticing your makeup is not quite sitting right on your skin or your skin is looking a little less bright and bouncy I recommend incorporating a nourishing phyto-active oil. My go to for all skin fixes is our Snowflower Illuminating Oil. This formula combines clinically proven Licorice extract (more than twice as effective at brightening as ascorbic acid) along with potent Australian natives and Jojoba oil. I recommend using this before your moisturiser or combining with your foundation for a super flawless, bright complexion.

Introduce postbiotic skincare

Nourishing our skin microbiome is important during the cooler months as means our skin can trap in moisture and is not as easily irritated or made dry by the elements. Postbiotics are my go-to when it comes to giving our skin microbiome a boost. Postbiotics can assist in reducing fine lines, nourish dry skin, and aid in collagen formation. The benefit of using postbiotics to prebiotics is that they are the end product of a well-fed probiotic which means you don’t need to worry about whether your probiotic has survived the manufacturing process and is actually in your skincare. I recommend our Microbiome Calming Milk as a milky serum to provide that extra boost your skin needs in autumn.

Invest in a thicker moisturiser

A thicker moisturiser may be all you need to transform your skin from dull to smooth and supple. Our Coco Bliss Intensive Repair Crème is a beautiful hydrating drink for the skin. Containing nourishing Omega rich oils, boosted with hydrating actives like ceramides, niacinamide and panthenol it is just the trick for dry and irritated skin. If your skin is in desperate need of hydration, use it as a moisture mask by applying a thick layer and leaving on for 20 minutes then removing with a washcloth.

Don’t forget SPF

The sun’s rays are just as potent in Autumn as they are in Summer. With over 90% of ageing linked to UV skin damage, I recommend maintaining your SPF50 application even as the weather cools down. Our Basking Beauty SPF50 sunscreen doubles as a nourishing moisturizer and sunscreen. What I love about it is the “summer” glow you exude when using it!

Hydrate on the inside

Hydrating on the inside with hyaluronic acid is a great way to boost moisture retention. My approach to keeping skin firm and supple is all about providing nourishing building blocks for your skin’s collagen production. Sprouted organic protein, vitamin C and hyaluronic acid makes our Complexion Protein+ more than your average protein powder and the perfect antidote to dry skin!
