Five Tips To Maintain Your Summer Glow – Inside & Out

Posted by Anna Mitsios on

With fall in full swing, now is the time to ensure you are religiously maintaining your skin care and beauty regime ahead of the colder months to come. We have you covered on skin care and beauty essentials with our Top 5 beauty tips to help you keep that summer glow.

  1. Shed Your Layers: A good facial exfoliant can help remove dead skin cells from your face and body. This is critical as the weather gets cooler as this is the time when dry skin cells tend to proliferate. There is no need to scrub too hard – a gentle exfoliant will do the trick. If you are after a natural product that works immediately to brighten and soften the skin, our & Desert Lime Flawless Micro-Exfoliant is the product for you. This is a product that I will demonstrate to alleviate any concerns  about how "quick" natural products work as the results are visible after on application. This exfoliant is a softening and skin smoothing polish which uses coconut oil as a base. Its multi-active exfoliators including Wattle Seed and Rice Strawberry fruit extracts which boost skin radiance and enhance skin renewal.
  2. Lather Up: Oil based moisturisers are wonderful at protecting your skin from moisture loss. Whilst serums providing active ingredients to plump and firm the skin, a lotion is needed to seal in moisture and provide a barrier to protect the skin. Our No. 4 Vanilla Silk Hydrating Lotion is abundant in fatty acids along with Vitamins A and E from Coconut oil, Camellia Seed Oil and Cacao Butter. Our & Coco Bliss Intensive Repair Creme is a thicker cream, which is ultra-hydrating and absorbent but suited to more dehydrated skin or use as a night cream, providing ultimate repair and restoration.
  3. Glamorous Hands: Do not forget to give your hands some love. One of our favourite tricks for ensuring our hands are kept looking youthful is to lather them with coconut oil or olive oil or better still our & Velvet Coffee Body Butter. It is as easy as lathering the cream or oil onto your hands, popping on a pair of cotton gloves and waking up with ultra-hydrated and youthful hands.
  4. Gobble Up Your Glow: Our most effective internal glow generators in the cooler months include flaxseed oil, avocadoes, hemp seeds, chia seeds and coconut oil. These foods are abundant in fatty acids which work to nourish and hydrate the skin from the inside out.
  5. Drink In Your Glow: We need to be mindful of ensuring we have adequate fluid intake as the weather starts get cooler. However you can literally drink in a healthy glow. Carry a water bottle with you wherever you go, at the office have decanter filled with mint, ginger and lemon leaves and at home revel in herbal teas. Licorice, cleavers, calendula, burdock root are all wonderful for healing the skin and balancing hormones for a beautiful glow. They feature in No. 4 Golden Glow Beauty Tea. Our No. 5 White Chai Digestif Tea is also the perfect companion for cosy nights in.

Four Ingredients You Need to Avoid In Your Cleanser

Posted by Anna Mitsios on

When it comes to ensuring your skincare routine is the most pure and therapeutic that it can be, the very first product to consider closely is your cleanser. Using the wrong cleanser can lead to skin dryness, irritation and accelerated ageing. Making a simple change to just this first step in your skincare regime can correct lingering skin problems and also improve the absorption of ingredients you are using after your cleanser.

Our “fearful four” ingredients when it comes to cleansers include:

  1. Sulfates. Sulfates are what make your cleanser foam and provide that “squeaky clean” feeling. Whilst they may create the illusion of cleaning your skin, sulfates are actually stripping it of its natural oils and are also known skin irritants. When stripped of its natural oils the skin can often over compensate by producing more oil which means that sulfates can contribute to both dry and oily skin issues. Look out for sulfates under the terms: Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Ammonium Laureth Sulfate.
  2. Fragrances. If you see the word “Fragrance” on your cleanser ingredient list, along with that fresh synthetic smell you may actually be absorbing over 300 chemicals which have been used to create the fragrance. Fragrances are stabilised with compounds known as phthalates which have been linked to fertility problems and birth defects. Fragrances can also irritate and dry the skin.
  3. Parabens. Parabens are commonly used to preserve skincare products and will often appear in cleansers given they contain a high water content which needs to be preserved. Parabens are known xenoestrogens which mean they mimic oestrogen in the body. They have been linked to hormone imbalance and reproductive issues and have even been identified in biopsy samples from breast tumours. Parabens will often appear as a suffix on ingredient listings so look out for terms such as: Methyl-Paraben, Ethyl-Paraben, Butyl-Paraben.
  4. Alcohol. Alcohol is often used in cleansers to allow other ingredients to penetrate. However it can strip the skin of its natural moisture balance and dry and irritate the skin. It can also alter the PH balance of the skin, which may lead to further dehydration, fine lines and skin cell death!

When looking for a natural and effective cleanser, search for a product which contains natural cleansing agents such as Coconut Oil, Citrus Oils and Soapwort. Look out for fruit extracts which are a natural source of AHAs. AHAs work to cleanse the skin gently whilst encouraging fresher, clearer, and smoother skin, reducing large pores. Oil-based cleansers naturally lift oil and grime whilst the skin’s sebum production. Edible Beauty Australia No.1 Belle Frais Cleansing Milk gently but effectively removes makeup, refines fine lines and brightens the skin. It contains Strawberry Fruit, Melon and Apple Extracts which naturally brighten the skin and has a refreshing uplifting fragrance from natural citrus.
