Five Summer Skincare Changes That We Swear By

As the summer heat starts to kick in, we tend to make changes to our diet, skincare and even our hair style. But we do not often consider what our skincare may require. Summer sun, humidity and more sweat mean that our skincare regime requires a few changes to ensure we are keeping the fresh, radiant and hydrated glow that keeps our skin youthful and vital. Five of the summer skincare changes that we swear by for naturally beautiful summer skin are below.


  1. De-Grease. Removing excess build-up of oil and grease at the end of long summer days is essential to ensure that your skin is blemish free and that active ingredients that you use on your skin work most effectively. If you do not already have one, choose a cleanser which contains ingredients that break up grease and oil such as Salicylic Acid. The No.1 Belle Frais Cleansing Milk contains Salicylic Acid (still edible!) along with Wattleseed which refines pores and Strawberry and Apple Extracts which work to brighten and boost the skin.
  2. Tone Things Up. Toning the skin is often a forgotten step but is so critical in summer. It ensures that the skin is kept bright, firm and hydrated. Avoid alcohol based toners which strip the skin of its natural moisture balance. Instead choose a toner with natural anti-microbial botanicals such as Citrus Essential oils, Calendula and Echinacea along with pore refining botanicals and natural AHAs.  Edible Beauty No.2 Citrus Rhapsody Tonique makes a wonderful travel mist to hydrate the skin in summer. The Edible Skincare Fixes You Need Now

Healthy glowing skin is in your realm! In the blog post below we provide inside out beauty secrets to combat common skin ailments which will provide the bright, clear and youthful skin we are all seeking.


Skin redness can be the cause of social anxiety and embarrassment and whilst conventionally there are no obvious remedies (rosacea is often treated with antibiotics without a positive outcome), there are vitamins which when applied topically help to combat this and three trigger foods to avoid which will also assist you in achieving bright and glowing skin.


One of the best way to take advantage of our skin absorbing nutrients applied topically is to focus on vitamin and antioxidant abundant products which nourish and revitalise the skin. Our favourite vitamins to combat redness are B vitamins and vitamin E. They work by reducing inflammation and can be found at therapeutic levels in & Coco Bliss Intensive Repair, our favourite anti-redness and anti-pigmentation product.

Studies suggest that Vitamin B3 applied topically can reduce the signs and symptoms of severe acne or rosacea by reducing the inflammation of the skin. Vitamin B3 works by increasing the production of ceramides and fatty acids which are two key components of the outer barrier of the skin. This action of strengthening the barrier results in skin being better able to keep moisture in and irritants out. Another benefit of B3 is that it inhibits the transfer of pigment to cells minimizing dark circles. In general, when applied topically all B vitamins will improve the balance, texture and moisture balance of the skin. Vitamin E also works to heal and regenerate the skin, reducing any scarring or lingering redness once the skin has healed.


Taken internally B vitamins will also work to improve damaged skin. On the inside we have also found that the best way to combat redness is by actually avoiding trigger foods. These include some very frequently consumed foods including wine, dairy, cheese, spices, chocolate and citrus. Eating garlic (1 or 2 cloves a day or taking a garlic capsule) and taking on a probiotic addresses the gut and microbial contributors to rosacea and redness.


The secret to addressing acne through food and your beauty routine is understanding that the condition stems from hormonal imbalance and excess sebum production. This can often be an excess of testosterone, oestrogen or insulin. Balancing these hormones, assisting the body in easily removing these hormones from the body and addressing excess oil production from the outside creates a fail proof way to eliminate acne.

Regulating hormones is also a critical factor in controlling acne.
